What we do: Peer mentoring
Summary:
Want to increase year 7 pupil’s confidence and ability to settle into school life? Keen to reduce bullying, truancy and conflict? Want to save time dealing with those issues at the start of the school year? Want to boost the emotional intelligence of your year 10 students?
Want to operate a scheme from a nationally accredited and award winning mentoring project with a proven track record?
Lifespace Peer Mentoring scheme is an additional way of meeting a wide range of social and emotional needs that young people face.
Who is it for?
Secondary school years 7 and 10. Year 10 students are trained towards the end of year 9.
What happens?
Lifespace Trainers work with year 9-10 pupils who become recognised Peer Mentors to new year 7 students. Peer mentors provide year 7’s with easy access to school know-how, a friendly listening ear, a safe place to talk about what’s on their minds and a commitment to being a positive role model.
Peer Mentors have their own copy of the Magnificent Mentor’s Manual where they can look back at their training, get ideas for supporting year 7’s and have all the necessary info if there’s a problem that needs a teacher’s involvement.
