What we do: Group mentoring

Summary:
“Fall Down Seven Times Stand Up Eight” is our group mentoring course based around our Four Big Questions for young people:

1. How and where do you like to feel safe?

2. What happens when you lose something important to you?

3. How can you use the power of your emotions more effectively?

4. What if you knew what positive risks to take, and how to begin?

Who is it for?
Group mentoring involves up to 6 young people in school, with sessions
usually 60 minutes each. Groups can be single or mixed gender and are led by
2 mentors.
The group is designed for Key Stage 3 (ages 11-14) and for young people who are keen to learn how to manage their feelings better, want to find new energy to learn, have been through tricky situations and would like to adjust to life in safer and happier ways.

What happens?
The group is a creative, visual & hands-on environment using games, activities, film clips, card packs, brief discussions & resource sheets. Each group member has their own Personal Action Pack to record and reflect on their own discoveries through the course.

Week 1 - "Feeling Safe”
Week 2 - "Bouncing Back“:
Week 3 - "Knowing What You're Worth“
Week 4 - "Using The Power Of Your Emotions“
Week 5 - "Taking Positive Risks“
Week 6 - "Moving Forward“

All of this fits really well with the Government's 'SEAL' strategy - Social & Emotional Aspects of Learning, recommended by the Dept. for Education.

What next?
